Vibrations, kill them on sight...

Usually, we tend to minimize asset vibrations to reduce component fatigue following the applicable ISO standard. However, an increase of stationary vibrations actually results in a decrease of bearing forces when the acting force is located on the rotor. This is why we sometimes accept some asset positions to vibrate above the ISO limits, eventually increasing the machine’s lifetime (e.g. flexible vertical flange coupled machines). Of course, this is carefully considered with all stakeholders to assess the impact on the overall system stress profile.
